Realacc Pagoda-2

Last updated 13 June 2017

This is the version of my own Pagoda antenna which is sold by Banggood/Realacc. These units were sent to me by Banggood.

I measured one SMA and one RP-SMA unit. The soldering was a bit inconsistent, but the large difference between the two measurements is probably caused mostly by the imperfect SMA to RP-SMA adapter that I had to use to measure the second antenna.

Note that the PCB thickness is just 0.8mm instead of the specified 1.0mm, and I have seen quite a few units where the two top PCBs are not exactly parallel. This explains the shift in resonant frequency and may also affect the axial ratio.

I have no anechoic chamber measurements for these units, but I do have them for my own Pagoda-2 antenna, which should have a similar radiation pattern.

Where do you put the heat shrink though? The banggood pagodas are shipped with a protective rubber on the 3 rings, that might be enough to shift the frequency down a bit?

That could work, but I would try putting heat shrink around the entire thing to make it more robust.

Hi, I see on the Banggood website they claim 5dBi gain. Having read your analysis of your original design, and having designed many experimental antennae myself, I am dubious, especially as you only claim 1dBi for the original design. So I was wondering whether you have had a chance to check their claims?

Banggood claims all kind of things, I would take their specs with a grain of salt. The actual gain is most likely comparable to other Pagoda-based designs. I also have no idea where they got that 50W spec from.
