Translations
SimpleScreenRecorder has been translated to a few languages, but a lot is still missing. I am still looking for translators for many languages. SimpleScreenRecorder has support for internationalization (i18n) based on Qt. This means it is relatively easy to create translations - there is no need to learn any programming language. All you need is the Qt Linguist tool, which can be installed from the repositories for most Linux distributions. On Ubuntu, you can get Qt Linguist by running:
sudo apt-get install qt4-linguist-tools
Translating
If you would like to help translate SimpleScreenRecorder, follow these steps:
-
You will need an empty .ts file for your language. I can create this for you if you want, but you can also create it yourself if you have downloaded the SimpleScreenRecorder source code. Just run the following commands:
cd src/translations lupdate-qt4 .. -ts simplescreenrecorder_xx.ts
Replace xx with a two-letter language code. If your translation is specific to one country and the same language is used by multiple countries, you can also use xx_YY where xx is a two-letter language code (lowercase) and YY is a two-letter country code (uppercase). So for example, if you are translating to Brazilian Portuguese, the complete file name would be simplescreenrecorder_pt_BR.ts.
-
You can now open the file with Qt Linguist and start translating. The user interface should be self-explanatory. On the left you will see a list of classes that need translations. The largest one is Logger, which contains only logging messages that are less visible. The other classes are more important, so try to do those first.
-
When you are done, email the .ts file to me or send me a pull request on GitHub.

Comment #1: Thu, 1 May 2014, 14:01 (GMT+1, DST) I intent to translate the application in Greek language(simplescreenrecorder_el.ts). I won't translate the Logger though. I strongly believe that loggers as terminal stdout/stderr..etc should be not localized. simplescreenrecorder_el.ts as a pull request in github when it's ready. The logger is less important, it's a bit of an edge case because it's both saved to a log file and displayed as part of the GUI. I prefer unlocalized logs because it makes debugging easier for me, but some people just want every single word on the screen to be translated, so I added the option. |

Comment #7: Mon, 5 Jan 2015, 1:42 (GMT+1, DST) Hello Maarten! I liked a lot simplescreenrecorder and I'd like to keep pt_BR translations up-to-date. However I have a hard time remembering to check the changes in Github. Would it be possible for you to provide a translation mail list to notify translators or maybe a more generic mail list to notify alpha versions (to cal attention to translators and testers) ? Thanks in advance Last modified: Mon, 5 Jan 2015, 1:42 (GMT+1, DST) |

Hi, Maarten, About a month ago I sent you email with Lithuanian translation, but I guess you didn't receive it. Please let me know if everything is OK. Moo Sorry about the late response - I did get the email, but I haven't had much time lately and I'm getting buried in SSR-related emails. The translation will be included with the next version. |

hello Mr. Maarten Quote
I am very sorry for being so late please also correct my name to Abdulla instead of Abulla. I see, I've added it now. However due to the delay some text in SSR has changed, so now a few translations are still missing. Could you do those as well? You can find the new file here: |

Comment #20: Sat, 7 Oct 2017, 13:40 (GMT+1, DST) Hello Maarten, and congratulations for the great software! I installed it via the AUR (ArchLinux) and it automatically uses the Greek language, which I'd like to change. Is there any config file I could edit, or any other ways of changing the language to English? many thanks for your time. |

Hello Maarten, and congratulations for the great software! I installed it via the AUR (ArchLinux) and it automatically uses the Greek language, which I'd like to change. Is there any config file I could edit, or any other ways of changing the language to English? many thanks for your time. The language is based on the LC_MESSAGES environment variable. You can change this either in your system settings, or you can override it for SSR specifically by creating a launcher that runs SSR as follows: LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 simplescreenrecorder |
